Leesville Road High School Bands Club Newsletter
October 2006 A message from the President All three bands are off to a great start this school year. During our September Bands Club meeting, the concert band treated us to a performance. This month we had a performance of the 9th Grade Band. Can you believe these bands have been together less than 2 months? The Symphonic Band has had a busy fall with Football Games, a performance for the USO, and marching competitions. This band program is one of the finest around. I encourage you to attend as many performances as possible this year. The Bands Club is the support organization for the band program here at Leesville. It takes many volunteers to pull off all the things we do. Please become involved by volunteering to help and by attending the Bands Club meetings each month. If you have ideas – please share them with us. At the present time we are in need of some volunteers from the 9th Grade band. We still need someone to be the 9th grade Performance Committee. This person would work directly with the other Performance chairs to help with concert tickets, merchandise sales and hand out programs at the concerts during the year. We also need a photographer to take pictures of the 9th grade band performances. The third position that we need filled for the 9th grade band is to have a Hospitality chair. This person would work with the other hospitality chairs to help with Band banquets and concert receptions. These positions have a mentor with the other chairs – so it should be an easy way to jump in and support your student! Finally, THANK YOU to all those that have already volunteered to take positions in the Bands Club. Thanks, Brenda Fanning
LHS BAND FUNDRAISING NEWS LUMINARY FUNDRAISER It is getting to be about that time of year for us to have the "LUMINARY FUNDRAISER". This is a fundraiser where band members do the work and reap the benefits of making the money for their band account. For those not familiar with the fundraiser; we have neighborhoods that have a luminary night. They light up streets in their neighborhood with beautiful luminary bags. Our band sells the kits, assembles the kits, and delivers the kits to the homes in the neighborhood. This fundraiser opportunity is open to the 9th grade band, concert band, and symphonic band. We will be making an announcement in November in all three band classes. Your band member will have a chance to sign up to work the fundraiser. There will be several opportunities to work. Make sure they sign up and we will give them all the information to participate. There will also be information on the band website. If you have any questions please contact Cheri Unger at 844-9384 or runger@nc.rr.com. Fruit and Poinsettia Sales are under way. Students will be able to raise funds to help pay for their portion of Fairshare and the spring trip. We need your help on Nov. 6th with money collection and reconciling orders. If you can spare a few hours in the morning from 8:30-?, we would love to have you come out to help. If you would like to help but money isn’t your thing, save time Nov.30 & Dec. 1st during fruit and flower deliver. We will need plenty of manpower to make this a success! Questions? Call Anjie Welsh (Fruit) 676-1944 or Paula Violet (Pointsettia) 870-0445
PRE-HOLIDAY GREETINGS FROM THE SCRIP COMMITTEE! Save yourself time, trouble (and money!) by doing some of your holiday shopping with scrip! The next collection dates for scrip orders will be NOVEMBER 6, 7 AND 8 (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). Distribution will be at the Bands Club meeting the following Tuesday. Also, due to the large volume of scrip orders processed in November and December, we can still use additional volunteers to help sort the shipments on Monday, November 13, and especially on Thursday, December 7 (both during school hours). This is a fun, easy job – no experience necessary! For additional information, please contact Linda Tesh at mtesh@nc.rr.com or 676-3899. We’ll be truly grateful for your help!
Symphonic Band Seniors Recognized At halftime of the football game on September 22, the Symphonic Band seniors were recognized for their hard work and dedication. Each senior present was escorted on the field as Mr. Albert announced his or her name, along with the position held in the band. It was an opportunity for band students to be honored for the long hours of practice for both marching and symphonic activities. Way to go seniors!
