Leesville Road High School Bands Club Newsletter NOVEMBER/DECEMBER--2006 Fall has been a very busy season for our Leesville band programs. The students were very busy selling fruit and flowers (details later). The Symphonic Band finished up their competition marching season. They received numerous awards from the competitions and will continue to perform at the football games during the play-offs. All the bands are gearing up for the Winter Concerts. The 9th Grade band and Concert band will perform on Thursday December 7th at 7:30 pm. The Symphonic Band will perform on Friday, December 8th at 7:30 pm. The tickets for these concerts will go on sale after the Thanksgiving break. Fall also marks the conclusion of the Walnut Creek Season, thanks to Joni Amerson and Lisa Wetzel for continuing to coordinate this operation. Thanks also to Heather Bunzey who took on the job of coordinating the Duke and NC State Football games. The Bands Club is always looking for parents to get involved. Please attend the bands club meetings. This is a way to meet other parents, and find out what is going on. We still have two open committee positions - 9th Grade Band Photographer and Sweet Tomatoes Coordinator. For those of you who don't know about Sweet Tomatoes, we have received 1000 coupons good for a free meal and drink at Sweet Tomatoes Restaurants around the country. We are selling these for $8.00; they have a value with tax of over 10.00. 100 percent of the proceeds of these go directly to the General Band Fund. So this helps cut down everyone's costs. We need someone who can help think of creative ways to market these coupons. If you are interested in helping with this, please let me know. Thank you to all those people who paid their fair share on time. Please continue to make your trip payments on time. It is hard for us to purchase tickets and make down payments on our festival expenses if we don't have the money coming in. We cannot post fundraising money to accounts until we actually know how much that is. So please pay your expenses and if you raise more - we will reimburse you. Any questions on this, please contact Kim Jones or myself. A special note for those of you looking to purchase holiday gifts; the Symphonic Band recorded a Christmas CD last year. It is the same music that will be played in this year’s concert. This CD will be available to purchase after Thanksgiving for the low cost of $10. We will also sell them at the Winter concerts and at the December Bands Club meeting. This CD would make a nice gift for anyone who enjoys Christmas music. In the spirit of Thanksgiving… a big thank you to all the Bands Club Board and Committee Members. Thank you for all you do to help make the band program at Leesville the best! Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to all band parents and students! Brenda Fanning

Fundraising News SCRIP DATES FOR NOVEMBER/DECEMBER As many of you are already aware, there will only be one more opportunity to order scrip gift cards before the holidays. Please note the following dates for ordering and picking up scrip: Monday, November 27 through Friday, December 1 – Order scrip by using the updated form from band website (www.leesvilleband.org), and place it with your check in the appropriate envelope in the band room. Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8 – Pick up your scrip order on your way into the band concerts on these dates. A scrip representative will be seated at a table outside the entrance to the auditorium for your convenience. The holidays are a busy time of year for us all. If you’d like to make it a bit easier on the Scrip Committee, please try to place you orders as early as possible during the week of November 27 (i.e. Monday or Tuesday would be much better than Thursday or Friday). We certainly appreciate your help on this! As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Linda Tesh at mtesh@nc.rr.com or 676-3899. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the entire Scrip Committee
