Leesville Road High School Bands Club Newsletter February 2007

It is hard to believe we are into the second half of the year already!

This will be a busy spring for our students.   At the Festival Performance at Leesville, all 3 bands will be playing for their parents the music for the State Contest.  The students will then have the spring trips where they will be performing as well.

I would like to start the year off thanking the hospitality, performance chairs and member services for  helping with the Winter concerts. Thanks to Lillian Mallia, Tamara James, Lynn Swanson, Lynn Overturf, Cheryl Ouellette, Tricia Burchette and Michelle VanDykhuizen and Ann Pezzoli.

The SCRIP team led by Linda Tesh and Elizabeth Page handled over $32,000 worth of gift cards before the holidays!  Thanks to all who helped put in orders, check orders, sort orders, recheck orders.... You deserve a big round of applause!

Please be sure to send in your trip payments.  We have many familiesthat have fallen behind on this.  We are purchasing tickets and paying out deposits to the festival groups and bus companies and so we need this money so we can continue to make those purchases.

We sold 287 copies of the Stile Nacht CD.  We still have plenty moreto sell, if you know of anyone that is interested in purchasing some (especially Leesville Band Alumni) please contact me -bfanning@nc.rr.com.

 Thanks, Brenda Fanning

Spring Symphonic Band Trip - New York City

Plans for the trip this spring are firming up nicely.   Besides the broadway show, we will be touring Ground Zero, Grand Central Station, NBC Studios, and MadamTussauds wax museum.   We will also visit the top of the Rockerfeller building, Central park and the American museum of History. Oh, and did I forget to say shopping on 5th avenue?  Of course the main reason for the visit is the festival competition at Riverside Church.  Our performance for both groups will be Saturday morning.  Stay tuned to the yahoo group for the time when I get it.   The cost of the trip will be $735.00, making the last payment $180.00.  Please remember that all the trip costs need to be paid by the end of February.

Concert Band Spring Trip –Orlando, Florida

Concert Band Seniors are in the final planning stages of their Spring Trip 2007.  The destination is Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida.  They will be going the third week in March.  A few of the highlights planned for the trip; it's Spring Training time of year, so some students have chosen to attend an Atlanta Braves vs NY Mets baseball game. Next, pull out the grass skirts, we're going to the Polynesian Resorts for Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. Then a little practice before our Festival won't hurt, so all will participate in a Disney's Music Workshop. More details will soon be sent home.

All trip payments are due by February 15th.  Final 4th payment = $125 or $150 ($25 for baseball game)

This will cover all trip related expenses: Festival, transportation, hote(w/hot breakfast), park passes, workshop fees, dinner show tickets & meals.

Congratulations to the students who made All-District this year!
