Quick Comparison of LRHS Bands

Intermediate

  • For ANY students that have NOT auditioned and have previous band experience
  • Ensemble of about 60 students
  • You must sign up for BOTH fall and spring semesters
    • NO summer requirements for Intermediate Band
  • Uniforms are purchased through the band. Approximate cost is $95 for women and $130 for men.
  • Day Trip (2022 was Carowinds)
  • Performance schedule includes Winter Concert (December), MPA Concert (March), MPA Adjudication performance (March), Spring Concert (May)
  • Approximate cost: Uniform $95-$133; Fair Share $70-$90, Spring Trip $150

Concert

  • Audition Required
  • Ensemble of about 60 students
  • You must sign up for BOTH fall and spring semesters (optional Honors credit)
    • NO summer requirements for Concert Band
  • Uniforms are purchased through the band. Approximate cost is $95 for women and $130 for men.
  • Frequent Guest Clinicians
  • Optional Spring Trip (planned for 2023 DisneyWorld)
  • Performance schedule includes Winter Concert (December), MPA Concert (March), MPA Adjudication performance (March), Spring Concert (May)
  • Approximate cost: Uniform $95-$133; Fair Share $70-$90, optional Spring Trip $800-$1000

Symphonic

  • Audition Required
  • Ensemble of about 80 students
  • You must sign up for BOTH fall and spring semesters (optional Honors credit)
  • Uniforms issued by the band – purchase of white dress shirt and $33 shoes required
  • Frequent Guest Clinicians
  • Many required rehearsals outside of school
    • Summer rehearsals are required for Symphonic Band
      • June 14
      • Pre-Band Camp at LRHS July 18-22
      • Band Camp at Lees McRae College July 25-31 (additional fees apply)
      • Aug 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 from 6:00-8:30pm
    • Morning rehearsals
      • Not year-round but as needed 6:45am-7:15am
    • Sectional rehearsals once a week after school or during lunch
      • Times are cleared with all sports teams and coaches
  • Intense performance schedule includes all Home Football Games, 4 Marching Band Competitions on Saturdays in Sept/Oct, Christmas Parade, Winter Concert, MPA, Spring Concert, Senior Assembly, Graduation, Spring Trip to DisneyWorld, and more.
  • Approximate cost: Uniform $33-$70; Fair Share $200-$300, Spring Trip $800-$1000

All Performances are Mandatory

Additional performances, such as playing for Bands Club meetings, and more will vary throughout the year. The band cannot perform to their potential if every member is not present. Therefore, it is expected that all students will participate in all performances.
