  1. Collaboration with the Orchestra Program:

The Bands Club and Band Directors would like to acknowledge and thank all the band students who collaborated with the orchestra program as they played their final concert of the year on Tuesday evening. The band students joined the orchestra as they performed an arrangement of Chorale and March from1812 Overture” by Tchaikovsky. This was a great way to support our fellow LRHS Arts Department musicians as well as gain orchestral playing experience. Well Done!

  1. An important message from the Bands Club Board re: Bands Club Board and Committee Chair positions:

Hello band families,

If you currently hold a Bands Club Board or committee chair position and do not plan to continue in that role for the 2023-24 school year, please email Allison Bullard (abullard2@wcpss.net) as soon as possible and let her know.

If you are interested in supporting our band program next year, watch this space!  We will announce available volunteer opportunities via email and the weekly Band News and Notes newsletters.  Please consider taking on a volunteer role next year – there are lots of ways to get involved.  If you have questions, email or talk to any of the current volunteers.  We’re more than happy to help you find something that’s a good fit.  Thank you!

  1. Bands Club Meeting – Tuesday, May 30th, 2023:

The last Bands Club meeting for this school year is coming up on Tuesday, May 30th. We invite incoming freshman/band parents to attend this meeting so that they can learn a little about our club and band activities. That said, please note that this meeting on the 30th isn’t just for new band families. We encourage all our members to attend as we close out the school year.  Among other agenda items, we will have a list of the open board and committee positions that will be open for the 23-24 school year.  We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

  1. Parents of Graduates/Volunteers “graduating” from their Bands Club service:

Are you a parent who is “graduating” LRHS band and has served on the board or as a committee member?

If so, please email Allison Bullard (abullard2@wcpss.net) to let me know the following:

  1. Your name:
  2. Your child’s name:
  3. What position (s) you have served during your time at LRHS:

4. Senior Posters:

Band Banquet is coming soon – Friday June 2nd –  and just like we did last year we would love to honor all of our three bands’ seniors by displaying their Senior Posters! This is completely optional but if you choose to create one, here are some guidelines. We have also included some posters from previous yrs for inspiration! If you have questions please contact Karyn directly at anglero74@gmail.com.  Students please deliver your posters to the band room the week leading to the banquet!!! (After Memorial day) Again, completely optional, but we would encourage you to participate.

Poster guidelines:

  1. Standard size poster (22×28…+/-) in portrait format (short end on top and bottom)
  2. Poster board colors should be either white, green, navy, silver, or gold.
  3. If interested you can laminate your poster but since it will be displayed indoors is not necessary (this is suggested)

Senior parents if interested, create a senior poster for your student! These posters usually include one or more photos, such as their senior photo, along with their name and some embellishments.

They will be displayed along the walls during Band Banquet.  This is a great way to recognize your senior, and we hope that everyone will want to participate! Symphonic Band parents please reuse the one you made in the Fall! No need to make a new poster!!!

Here are a couple of samples so that you can see what has been done in previous years:

Summer Music Camp Opportunities:

1. ***New Camp Opportunity***: We have received information about a Summer Band Camp at ECU. The camp runs from June 18-23, 2023. It has options for Middle School and High School Bands, Jazz Band and also a Colorguard track option.

Please see the following website link to find out all the details:

ECU Summer Band Camp

ECU Band Camp Flyer

Here is some specific info about the Colorguard Track:

“I am excited for this new and exciting opportunity for students to learn from some of those who I think are some of the best in the colorguard business. Led by long-time instructor and ECU Colorguard Coordinator Lynda Kachman, the new colorguard track that is a part of the ECU Summer Band Camp is a deep dive into both the elements of movement and expression in this essential facet of the outdoor AND indoor visual performing arts. Lynda and her team of instructors bring a vast wealth of knowledge and experience that promises to help provide avenues for students to continue to grow in a relatively low-pressure environment. The colorguard track is meant to create a more immersive learning environment that is built on the abbreviated “Spin Clinics” that are offered throughout the spring and summer. The emphasis on fundamentals and applicable skills will both help shape each student’s learning efficiency on the relatively short timelines we experience in the competitive season, as well as enrich their performance experience. Whether they want to develop their skills for the upcoming fall and winter season, or they want to explore their curiosity in the art with friends and like-minded peers, there’s going to be something for everyone. I sincerely hope that you’ll consider spending some time spinning with us this summer!”

Ensemble performance in band, chorus, or orchestra will be emphasized and each camp will conclude on Friday evening with a concert for parents, relatives, friends, and area residents. Classes in basic musicianship, as well as recital performances and sectional rehearsals by the camp staff members will serve to balance the total program. A private lesson on your instrument, in voice, or on piano is an available option to all campers.

The UNCG Summer Music Camp application process is entirely ONLINE! Parents must make the online application for their child. You must utilize a laptop computer or a desktop computer.
